Gift of Giving

The importance of education as a means to changing one’s opportunities is generally widely valued in society. It is sometimes difficult for our students at Siena College to value their education and understand that it is a privilege as much as it is their right. It is at times uncomfortable to acknowledge the class stratification that clearly exists in Australia, but we live in a world that is changing. Our students are caring people who critically think about how the decisions they make may affect others.  

In a recent pastoral period, our student reflected on the gift that is their Siena education. What does it mean to be a Siena educated woman? In groups, students unpacked the importance of having access to education, how to make the most of educational opportunities and discussed how we can use our learnings to change the world for the better. 

In acknowledgement of the Be All You Can Be giving day, students wrote short pledges using the sentence starter “I am thankful for my Siena education because…”
