Mission and Identity

St Dominic’s Day

On Thursday, 8 August we celebrated the Feast of St Dominic with a College Eucharist in St Dominic’s Church. Fr Kevin invited us to reflect on our 2019 theme Called By Name:

'I am, like you, still learning what it means to be human, how to love, what it means to be compassionate, how to relate well to those around us, how to take up the causes that give us meaning, to speak truth to those who need to hear it and look after the needy.

I am aware that some of you are struggling to make sense of who this man Jesus is. I can join you in that. Our mysterious Christian belief is that God, in Jesus, even before the cosmos came into existence, chose us, called us each by name, to live our lives as he showed us. He gave his life to bring peace to our lives, a peace that ranges so widely in love and compassion, in truth and justice, in recognizing and going through suffering to bring us life - doing it simply and so authentically.

Catherine, little sister, and Dominic, big brother, understood this. They were called by name to do what they did because they believed in Jesus. On the wall of the staff entrance to Siena’s administration block is a statement attributed to St Dominic: 'I have studied in the Book of Life – Love teaches everything'. Memorise those last three words, for they give us all the best game plan for our lives: 'Love teaches everything'.

In addition to this, on Sunday, 11 August our Year 7 and 8 student leaders proudly represented the College at the St Dominic’s Parish celebration of this important feast.
