The Flute Guild is a well established flute association and supports school, community and privately run flute ensembles in Victoria. Galway Flutes, under the director of Janette Patton performed two contrasting pieces to an appreciative audience and other competing ensembles. We are delighted to say they achieved an Honourable Mention in the senior school section.
Siena College’s three choirs, Junior Choir, Senior Choir and Canti Dolce participated in the Boroondara Eisteddfod on the 28th May at the Hawthorn Arts Centre on Tuesday. Junior Choir were awarded second place, Canti Dolce Third Place and Senior choir participated in a highly competitive section with schools with established choral programs. Congratulations to all students and Ms Hill, Ms Patton and Mr Sheehan and students for preparing and performing so well.
The Music Department was delighted to host music students and staff from Mary’s College, Adelaide recently. St Mary’s College is another Dominican school with a thriving music department and it was a wonderful opportunity for them to join our program for a short while. Their students participated in our senior ensembles at the Autumn Concert, attended band and choir rehearsals, performed in a VCE Music Performance Seminar class and attended other classes during the day. The music staff were able to share valuable insights into the strengths and challenges of our respective programs and workshop creative ideas about staging events. St Mary’s students and staff concluded their visit by attending a matinee performance of Muriel’s Wedding followed by a group dinner in the city. Thank you to the Siena families who hosted students for the three days with such warm hospitality. It was terrific to start a friendship through music and we hope some of our students will tour to Adelaide to take part in St Mary’s 150th anniversary concert in August.
