Last week the Siena community and their friends were invited to gather together for our first Christmas Market. After a week of precarious weather, we were blessed with a beautiful evening providing us with the opportunity to appreciate the aesthetics of our Convent Cloisters and take in the afternoon sun.
Students across a variety of year levels had worked to contribute towards the market stalls. Christmas decorations had been created by students with the assistance of Siena staff member, designer and crafter, Barb Edwards. Staff and student leaders had collaborated to cook a range of festive treats while others, working with Head of the Arts and Technology, Claire Al-Noah, designed and printed Christmas cards.
A unique feature of the market was a stall selling Kopanang products, original pieces designed and created by women working at the Kopanang Project in Tsakane South Africa. It was also wonderful to welcome back three alumnae, students who had previously travelled to South Africa on immersion in 2018, to participate in the event alongside students who had travelled this year. The evening was a beautiful celebration of the Siena spirit and provided us with the opportunity to spread some early festive cheer. All money raised from the event will support the women of Kopanang.
Plans are already underway for the 2020 Christmas market and we look forward to seeing you there!
