The Siena College Board supports the College, promoting the wellbeing and learning of all students and providing an environment in which the College continues to flourish. The Board has a strong commitment to preserving and fostering the Catholic identity and the Dominican charism upon which the College was founded. The Directors of the Board are accountable for the sound governance of the College. They provide strategic direction and contribute legal, financial and other professional expertise to the governance of the College.
The Siena College Board is assisted by four advisory committees which support the Siena College Board in its governance role: the Finance Committee, the Building and Grounds Committee (currently in recess), the Policy Committee and the Risk Management Committee.
Introducing the Siena College Board
Katherine McCarthy (Chair) Qualifications: B.Sc; M.Ed (Psych); LL.B (Hons); Grad.Dip.Ed. Psych Katherine was appointed to the Siena College Board in 2013. She is a past College Captain of Siena (Class of 1989) and is currently a psychologist and consultant whose work focuses on leadership and development in organisations and individual executive coaching. She is involved in running the APS Coaching Psychology Interest Group, which runs training programs for executive coaches and also works to direct the strategic positioning of coaching in Australia. Katherine's daughter, Alannah, is a current student at Siena College.
Patricia Cowling (Deputy Chair) Qualifications: B.A; Dip.Ed.; M.A (Prelim); B.Theol.; M.Ed. Management (International); MBA (Exec)Patricia joined the Siena College Board in July 2016 and brings considerable expertise in education. She has served as a secondary school Principal for over twenty years (Genazzano FCJ College from 2001 to 2015 and Padua College from 1996-2000) and has enjoyed the challenge of ensuring schools are strategically placed to meet the educational, political and economic opportunities of the future. From 1989-1992, she served on the Siena College Leadership Team as Curriculum Coordinator. Patricia is currently employed by Catholic Education Melbourne as a Secondary Principal's Consultant in the Southern Region and is deputy Chair of the Sandhurst Catholic Education Commission and a member of the Advisory Board of Melbourne firm, Baumgart Clark Architects.
Vanessa Barcellona Qualifications: B.A (Professional Communication), MBA (Exec) Vanessa joined the Siena College Board in July 2018, serves as a member of the Finance Committee and was President of the Siena College Alumnae Association from 2014 to 2015. Vanessa has more than fifteen years experience in management and strategy roles focused on technology, financial services, marketing and e-commerce in Australia and Asia Pacific. Since 2012, Vanessa has been a Director at KPMG, where she leads the relationship and service delivery to one of Australia's Big Four banks. Vanessa’s specialties include; relationship management and development, growth strategy and execution, contract negotiation, customer needs analysis and innovative solution development. Prior to joining KPMG, Vanessa held several management positions including five years at the global technology company, NCR, in an Asia Pacific role, two years at Dell Software, and four years at the Australian Bridal Service in various strategy and marketing communications roles. Vanessa is an alumna of the College (Class of 2001).
Celia Conlan Qualifications: BA; LLB; Masters in Applied Family Law Celia joined the Siena College Board in December 2017 and has served as a member of the Siena College Finance Committee since 2017. Celia practises predominantly in Family Law, property and children's cases and associated matters including child support, intervention orders and crimes compensation. Celia is an alumna of the College (Class of 1987).
Damian Giannangelo Qualifications: B.Bus, Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment Damian joined the Siena College Board in December 2017 and has served as a member of the Siena College Finance Committee since 2012. He has over 20 years experience in the financial services industry covering banking, financial services, life insurance and superannuation with specific areas of expertise in project management, risk and compliance management and retail and commercial banking. Damian’s eldest daughter Bella Giannangelo (Class of 2017) attended Siena College. Damian’s daughter, Mia, is a current student at Siena College.
George Housakos Qualifications: B.A George has been a member of the Siena College Board since 2015 and has served on the Finance Committee since 2014. George has worked in the not for profit sector and private property industry for most of his career and is now a Director at People 4 Places. He has served on State and Federal Government and non Government committees reviewing social policy and housing. George’s daughter Ruby attends Siena College.
Michael Kral Qualifications: B.A, DipEd Michael joined the Siena College Board in May 2019 and has served as a member of the Siena College Risk Management Committee since 2014. He has over 20 years experience in the telecommunications, print/digital marketing and education sectors covering risk management, business continuity, strategic/operational planning and execution, governance, process/business management and change management. Michael's daughters, Eliza and Hannah, are current students at Siena College.
Elizabeth Hanney (Principal and CEO) Qualifications: M.Ed, M.Couns, B.Th, DipEd, FACE Elizabeth commenced as Principal of Siena College in 2020. As Principal, Elizabeth carries out the decisions made by the Board and is responsible to the Board for the educational policy of the College and its execution, internal administration and management of the College in harmony with the values expressed in the Constitution. Elizabeth is a member of the Board Executive and on the Finance, Building and Grounds, Risk Management and Policy Committees.
Tony Grant (Company Secretary) Qualifications: B.Bus.Man; Grad.Cert.Ed.Law; GAICD; MBA (Exec) Tony has been Business Manager at Siena College since 2016 and is on the Finance and Building and Grounds Committees. Tony has twenty years' experience in the education sector.
Sr Judith Lawson OP Qualifications: B.Ed, M.Ed Judith joined the congregation of the Dominican Sisters in 1963. She has many years of experience in teaching and administration in primary and secondary schools in NSW and Queensland. She served as Principal of two primary schools before undertaking studies at Boston College USA. From 1982 until 1987 she was Religious Education Coordinator at Santa Sabina College in Sydney and from 1987 until 2007 she served as Principal of Santa Sabina College. After a sabbatical in 2008 she was elected Prioress of the Dominican Sisters of Eastern Australia and the Solomon Islands and served in that role for eight years.
George Sfetsos Qualifications: B.Bus (Accounting), CPA George has been a member of the Siena College Board since January 2020 and has served on the Finance Committee since 2013. George has worked in senior roles within manufacturing, construction and media businesses over the last twenty years and has been Chief Executive Officer at Universal Corporation since August 2017. George’s eldest daughter Jade graduated from Siena in 2018 and his youngest daughter Brooke is currently in Year 11.
