Our Siena in Siena Immersion provides Year 9 students at Siena College the opportunity to embrace an enriching educational experience in Italy.
During a three-week immersive journey, students encounter Italy through the lens of the Dominican tradition and the enduring legacy of St Catherine of Siena. Travelling through Rome, Florence, Bologna, Milan and of course, Siena, students walk in the footsteps of St Catherine, exploring how her commitment to truth, service, courage and faith continues to speak powerfully to the modern world.
The program places a strong emphasis on community engagement, service and personal responsibility, encouraging students to grow in independence, resilience and reflective learning as they navigate new environments together. Alongside this, students deepen their understanding of Italian history, culture and daily life, using the rich historical and spiritual landscape of Italy to connect lived experience with Dominican values in action.
Students also engage with the local community in a small town called Tavarnelle in the heart of Tuscany. They will experience Italian culture and traditions, and connect with students from a local high school. Each group also contributes to a community project, fostering a sense of belonging, service and connection.
This exciting immersion allows students to embrace every opportunity – to do more – ensuring that they are empowered to explore, learn and grow; to ultimately be equipped with knowledge, confidence and compassion to be more in their future.

“The trip is something I’m going to always remember. It was one of the greatest experiences I’ve had in my life. It was my first trip overseas and it couldn’t have been any better. The best things about the trip were the food, meeting the local community, immersing myself in the Italian culture, and being there with my friends.”
