It is with great sadness that we share the news that beloved Siena community member Gayle Peggie née Davis (Class of 1974) passed away late last week.

After graduating from Siena College in 1974, Gayle studied at Burwood Teacher’s College, returning to Siena in 1978 to commence a passionate and dedicated journey as an educator. Renowned for her care, warmth and dedication to nurturing students, Gayle taught Health and Physical Education, was a House Coordinator and coached many sporting teams throughout her career. She was also instrumental in establishing some of the wonderful programs we still offer our students today: notably, the Siena in the City program, the House of the Year Award, and Fiesta. Fiesta is a highlight and fond memory for so many students, past and present, and we were absolutely delighted to welcome Gayle back to Siena in Term 1 as one of our 2025 judges.

After retiring in 2011, Gayle remained a friendly face about the College, returning regularly as a relief teacher. She was also a member of the 2014 Project Appeal Campaign Committee and was Co President of the Alumnae Association from 2016 to 2018. It was wonderful to welcome Gayle to her 50-year Reunion with the Class of 1974 last October.

Mother, wife, sister, aunt, friend to many, and a remarkable woman. Gayle will be missed. We hold her family in our thoughts and prayers at this time.

God of love,
Eternal rest grant unto Gayle
And may perpetual light shine upon her.
May she rest in peace.
Amen
