We were fortunate to have our Scientist in Residence, Siena College alumna, Dr Lorien Parker (Class of 1999), visit our Year 7 and 9 Science classrooms recently. Our Year 7s have been undertaking an Ecology unit, and Lorien (aka Dr Loz) was running an activity where students designed and created a species that had to thrive under certain conditions. They also had the opportunity to think about how species are adapted to ecological niches and the kinds of relationships they have with other species. Our Year 9s have been learning about chemical reactions and were involved in a range of experiments, including making drawings disappear, writing secret messages, and creating plastic – all using common household chemicals. Thank you Dr Loz for bringing our Science curriculum to life!
